I don’t know if you have a Facebook account, or keep up with the social network ... but they have been in the news recently. Facebook made some significant changes to their “terms of usage.” The result was an outpouring of complaints and frustrations from some of their 175 million users. So Mark Zuckerberg posted comments explaining their reasons for “returning to their previous terms of use.”
In the midst of his comments on the Facebook blog, he wrote the following:
More than 175 million people use Facebook. If it were a country, it would be the sixth most populated country in the world. Our terms aren't just a document that protect our rights; it's the governing document for how the service is used by everyone across the world. Given its importance, we need to make sure the terms reflect the principles and values of the people using the service. (http://blog.facebook.com/blog.php?post=54746167130)
I am so thankful that we have a document that reflects the principles and values of the God who wrote it. That document is the Bible, the Word of God. When we spend the time to read it, reflect on it, and apply it to our lives, it changes us. Our job is to submit to its guidance, not complain that we don’t like the “terms of use.”
James 1:22-25 provides this counsel and I pray that I will heed it:
22Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror 24and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.
